Things and Acts that can Void the Salat
In performing any Salat, it should be noted that the salat will be rendered void by several deliberate or even unintentionally acts. This is also referred as Mubtilat. The mubtilat acts are as follows:
- Everything that spoils the ablution (wudhu’) voids the salat.
- Speaking or voicing aloud.
- Uttering or to crying aloud on account of some pain.
- Laughing during the salat.
- Making any noise while offering the salat.
- Drinking or eating while offering the salat, swallowing of any food particles in the mouth is also considered as eating.
- Coughing or clearing the throat unnecessarily resulting in some form of word being uttered.
- Exposure or nakedness of any essential part of the body.
- To turn the chest away from the direction of the Ka’abah without any valid reason.
- Frequent movements of the body, hand or leg or to walk and taking more than 2 steps or movements at a time.
- Vomiting deliberately or unintentionally and irrespective of the amount.
- The presence of any dirty or polluted things (classified as Najasah) on the body, clothes of the devotee or at the place where the devotee performs the salat.
- To be ahead or to go ahead of the Imam in the case when the salat is performed in congregation.
With the sound knowledge that the salat can be void by several acts, one should take every precaution to avoid the salat being unnecessarily nullified.
